Why Is My Heat Pump Running But Not Cooling Properly?

Your heat pump can run without cooling due to a dirty filter, incorrect thermostat mode, low refrigerant, blocked or dirty coils, a clogged condensate drain, or an iced outdoor unit. Year‑round systems need twice‑yearly maintenance to keep efficiency and airflow in check.

Quick checks:

  • Set thermostat to Cool and Auto.
  • Replace/clean the air filter.
  • Clear debris around the outdoor unit and coils.
  • Look for ice buildup and shut the system off to thaw.
  • If problems persist, schedule service for refrigerant and electrical checks.
